Parallel Processing for CAD with Emphasis on Analog Circuits

Abstract

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for most engineering design problems involves  computer simulation, optimization, statistical analysis and design for cost and yield optimization.  These tasks require a large number of simulations to be done using computers.  Parallel processing can speed-up these tasks.  Relaxation-based methods are relatively easier to be implemented on multi-processor systems for parallel processing, but they suffer from slow convergence or non-convergence characteristics.  SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) is a very popular circuit simulation tool for Electronic Design Automation (EDA). It is based on a direct method to solve circuit equations. In this talk, a circuit partitioning algorithm is presented. Its applications in parallel processing of circuit simulations, optimization and statistical design are presented. This method can also improve convergence speed of relaxation-based methods when a circuit contains strong coupled components or feedback loops.

 

陳明敏教授簡介

 

陳明敏教授1959年畢業於交通大學電機工程系﹔1965年獲美國普瑞特學院(Pratt Institute)工學碩士學位﹔1968年獲美國羅杰斯大學(Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey)哲學博士學位。

 

1968 - 1976年在美國貝爾電話實驗室(Bell Telephone Laboratories)從事研究和開發工作﹔1976年返港後曾在香港、新加坡從事電子工業生產和管理業務﹐及在香港理工學院任教。

 

1990 - 2002年陳教授在香港城市大學任教﹐曾擔任香港城市大學電子工程系副系主任（1995 - 1999年）、創意媒體學院(School of Creative Media)副院長（1999 - 2002年）﹐同時出任城大企業有限公司董事（1991 - 2002年）及董事總經理（1993 - 1994年）﹐為香港城市大學科研成果轉化成實用產品或技術作出了突出的貢獻。 2002年榮休後獲香港城市大學創意媒體學院聘為訪問教授。他也獲上海交通大學和西安交通大學聘為顧問教授。現為香港城市大學電子工程系兼職教授(Adjunct Professor)。

 

陳教授在中國內地、香港、美國、新加坡先後從事教學、科研和企業管理工作達四十多年﹐在電子工業、電腦及資訊科技領域貢獻良多，先後在國際刊物上及學術會議中發表超過百篇的專業論文﹐培養指導過眾多碩士、博士研究生﹐是十個研究基金資助項目的主要研究者。其研究領域包括平行計算(Parallel Computing)，電子線路模擬(Electronic Circuit Simulation), 計算機輔助設計(Computer- Aided Design)等。

 

陳教授曾任電機暨電子工程師學會（IEEE）香港分會執委（1995 -1996年）﹐香港電腦分會執委（1991年至今）並出任主席（1995 -1996年）；現為IEEE Life Member 。自1999年至今他在多個國際學術會議上擔任主席(1999 及 2005年Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference； 2001、 2003、 2005、 2007 及2009年IEEE International Conference on ASIC)。

 

1999 - 2000年陳教授出任由五所交通大學校友聯合組成的交通大學香港校友會會長。
